While most people like to stay in bed on a Sunday morning, I woke up early to go to the militaria fair in Ciney. Even though it's a big fair and there's always a chance to find something, I had already found everything before the fair and I just went to pick up some items.. And I promised myself not to buy one thing more because these items aren't cheap, not at all!
A month ago I found this great Navy Nurse jacket on Etsy and I just had to buy it! A few years ago, also in Ciney the complet uniform was for sale but the day before I bought my WAVES uniform so I didn't bought it and I really regretted it for a long time so I had no other choice than buying this one. Soon I started looking for the hat and there was one for sale on Ebay but so expensive (yeah I'm not paying 550$ for a hat...) so I just kept searching and I think I had a lot of luck because there was one for sale in Belgium! The seller had also an Army Nurse off-duty dress for sale and because it's almost my birthday I decided to buy the hat and the dress.
Now I still need the skirt but finding one won't be easy so I'll try to find the tissue and make one myself. Hopefully it's finished soon so I can finally wear it.
This is the Blue Outdoor Navy Nurse uniform: it consists of a double breasted jacket, closed with 6 gold buttons, made out of a dark blue/almost black coloured fabric and a skirt made out of the same fabric. It was worn with a white shirt and a black tie. Before 1944 they wore the gold NNC insignia on the collar of the jacket, afterwards NNC patches were sewn on the sleeves. In 1944 a new NNC cap was authorized.
In 1945 the Army Nurse Corps had 54000 nurses, while the Navy Nurse Corps 'only' had 11000 nurses, this also means that a NNC uniform now is a lot more difficult to find than a ANC uniform.
